A POEM

With gratitude we’ve watched your wheeling flight
Your proud formations, through these waiting days
Roar southwards in the glow of morning light
Or sweeping homewards in the evening haze
But now with fuller hearts we see you leave,
The peaceful beauty of an English spring
Since men we know are waiting on war scarred fields the help that you will bring
You draw them nearer to the homes they know so soon returning from your Channel flight
And bind in closer friendship those who go
In hand together to the common fight
