Alfred Zussa was born in Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Guido Zussa and his wife Elina Gervasi, both born in Italy. Guido and Elina were married in Lake County, Indiana on September 24th of 1921. Elina died on July 1 1935.  Alfred had enlisted in the Air Corps on October 9th of 1942. At the time of his enlistment he had completed 4 years of high school and worked as a carpenter. He was single with no dependents.
